What is your acne really saying?
When I decided to start a blog I knew that I would only post about things I truly believe in and know a substantial amount of information about. Well, unfortunately I know a heck of a lot about acne. I’ve been struggling with acne since I was about 13 years old. That being said, I have a decade’s worth of information to share. I have tried everything from Proactiv, to oral medications, to just about every topical product drug stores and department stores have to offer.
Over the last couple of years, I feel I have finally found a regiment that keeps my acne at bay, but I’m doubtful of ever riding all acne because 90% of it is hormonal. I have recently started taking omega vitamins to help keep my hormones in check.
Here is what I have learned over the years from respected dermatologists, other sufferers like myself and trial and (a lot of) error,
1.) Forehead. Breakouts across the forehead often pop up because of stress or from sleep deprivation. Try to get your 8 hours and your forehead should begin to clear.
2.) Above the brow. Getting acne above the brow is normally affected by your immune system. Breakouts here tend to happen right before, after, or during a cold or flu. If you start to break out here make sure you get rest, drink plenty of water to help flush out your system and eat foods such as yogurt, fish, garlic and drink good quality tea to help boost your immune system.
3.) Between brows. Breakouts between the brows can be caused by overindulging in richer or unhealthy foods. Cutting back on processed foods and alcohol and eating “clean” will make a difference.
4.) Cheeks. Your cheeks are linked to your respiratory system. Smoking or breathing polluted air can cause breakouts here.
5.) Side of chin. The sides of your chin are triggered by hormones. Breakouts here occur before or during your period. Talk to a health professional about taking medication or vitamins to help balance your hormones.
I fall under the categories 4 and 5. I never would get acne on my cheeks, but when I moved to NYC it started, which is why 4 now makes perfect sense. As for number 5, I get acne about a week before my period and it lasts anywhere from 7-10 days and then I’ll have about two and a half weeks of clear skin.
Unfortunately there is no cure for acne, but there are ways to control it. I’m not promising the products above will work for you, but maybe one or two products will make a slight difference.
